History of Murdock

Murdock, was platted and named in 1878 by Samuel Sabin Murdock, a former manager of St. Paul Harvester Works. The city was incorporated on January 28, 1881, and later reincorporated on December 31, 1898. Murdock, who owned 3,000 acres in the area, was born in Vermont in 1830 and served as Minnesota’s railway commissioner in 1894. The post office in Murdock was established in 1878, with George Botham, a general store owner, serving as the first postmaster. The city also had a station of the Great Northern Railway in section 11.

Murdock Today

Murdock is a small, quiet community with a population of around 310 residents. The town offers a rural lifestyle while still being within reach of nearby cities for work and recreation. Murdock has local businesses, including a post office and a few stores, and maintains its historical charm with landmarks reflecting its past. Murdock is also home to the KMS elementary school.
