Welcome to Swift Falls!

History of Swift Falls

Swift Falls, Minnesota, was founded in 1866 by Jonas M. Danelz, who named the town after the waterfall on the east branch of the Chippewa River. Danelz built a flour mill in 1873, which was later expanded and rebuilt after burning down in 1895. He also established a mercantile company in 1880, which changed ownership over the years before closing in 1970. The town became home to various businesses, including a creamery established in 1897 that later expanded into turkey farming, eventually leading to the creation of Jennie-O. Swift Falls also had a bank, opened in 1917, but it closed in 1926. In 1966, the town dedicated Swift Falls Park, a community project developed through local participation in a rural conservation initiative.
